Role Overview

The Community Partnership Executive plays a key role in the planning and execution of impactful fundraising campaigns, community engagement programmes, and public outreach initiatives that uplift and empower the visually impaired community.

Requirements:
  • Self-motivated and proactive – eager to learn, take initiative, and work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong research and analytical skills – able to conduct independent research to support campaigns and initiatives
  • Excellent communication and writing abilities – strong interpersonal skills to engage donors, stakeholders, and the community (proficiency in Mandarin is a bonus)
  • Tech-savvy and proficient in Microsoft Office – skilled in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel for reports, presentations, and data management
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and resourceful – capable of multitasking and managing multiple projects efficiently
  • Creative with an eye for design – experience in artwork creation or an interest in design is a plus
  • A Degree/Diploma in Marketing, Communications, or related disciplines
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant working experience; candidates with more experience will be considered for a senior position
  • Flexibility to work occasional weekends and evenings for events and outreach activities (time off in-lieu will be granted)

  • Design and execute strategies to expand fundraising efforts, engage the public, and increase community outreach

  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, such as funders, corporate partners, government agencies, and the public
  • Oversee the production and upkeep of marketing assets, including brochures, banners, and signage

Our annual Flag Day is happening on 5 April, Saturday, and we need your help to make a difference. Whether you have a few hours to spare or the entire day, your time will go a long way in supporting the visually impaired community in Singapore.

  • Perfect for Groups: Gather friends, family, or colleagues to volunteer together.
  • Flexible Commitment: Volunteer at your convenience, with no minimum time required.
  • Earn Recognition: Volunteers who dedicate at least 4 hours and collect a minimum of $40 will receive a volunteering certificate.

All funds raised will directly support GDS programmes, including the provision of guide dogs, life-changing rehabilitative training, and assistive technology services.

Flag Day Details

Date: Saturday, 5 April 2025
Time: Our earliest slot starts at 10 am. There is no time limit for the volunteering. We welcome your participation whether you are available for a few hours or the whole day.
Venue: Island-wide. You can indicate your preferred reporting locations. (Jurong East MRT, Serangoon MRT, Somerset MRT, Tampines MRT)

Registration closes on 16 March, Sunday, 11.59pm. 

Terms and Conditions:

  1. You must be at least 16 years old in 2025 to volunteer.
  2. You will be responsible for your own transportation and lunch.
  3. For those who require a letter to certify volunteering hours, a min. of 4 hours must be clocked and $40 and above must be collected.

A confirmation email with details will be sent to you within 3-4 working days upon registration. A reminder email will also be sent a few days before the event.

  • What is the role of a Flag Day volunteer?

    On Flag Day, volunteers will be in the streets raising funds necessary to help GDS continue providing lifelong support, as well as spreading awareness for the visually impaired community and guide dogs. Your primary responsibility as a volunteer will be to collect donations from members of the public.

  • How long do I have to volunteer for?

    There is no time limit for volunteering. We welcome your participation, whether you are available for a few hours or the whole day. Our earliest volunteering slot starts at 10 am. You can indicate your reporting time on the sign-up form and should return to the reporting base by 6:30 pm on the event day.

  • Do I have to bring anything?

    Since you will be out and about, please bring only essential items as there will not be any available storage space.

  • Will there be any volunteering briefing sessions?

    Yes, there will be two briefing sessions for volunteers (exact date and timing to be confirmed). You would only need to attend one. For those unable to attend either session, we will also send out the volunteering briefing deck to everyone, which you can refer to at any time.

  • Will there be any permit that we can show to members of the public to demonstrate our eligibility to collect donations on behalf of GDS?

    Yes, there will be a QR code on the donation tin indicating that we are a registered charity and authorised to conduct this fundraising event. We will also provide you with a volunteer deck, which includes the permit for Flag Day collection.

  • Can I volunteer with my friends?

    Yes, you can volunteer with as many family members and friends as you like. Each of you will need to sign up via the online form: bit.ly/gdsflagday25

  • If I collect my donation tin at Jurong East, do I have to stay in the area?

    Not at all! You’re free to bring your donation tin beyond Jurong East. You can head to nearby areas like Buona Vista, Clementi, or Choa Chu Kang or anywhere else that’s convenient for you. This flexibility applies to all collection points.

  • Will there be any guide dogs?

    Our clients with vision impairment, including both white cane and guide dog users, will actively participate in GDS Flag Day 2025 to collect funds necessary for us to continue providing lifelong sustainable support for the visually impaired community. These clients will serve as ambassadors to promote inclusiveness, and you may have the opportunity to meet some of them.

  • I would need volunteering certification, is that possible?

    Values-in-Action (VIA) hours or volunteering certification will be provided to those who require it. The certification will be granted only to individuals who volunteer for a minimum of 4 hours and collect $40 or more.

  • Why should I volunteer with GDS?

    As a self-funded charity, donations play a pivotal role in supporting our mission of providing rehabilitation for individuals with vision loss. By volunteering with us, you will be able to help us raise funds to continue providing long-term support to the blind and low vision community and also contribute to raising awareness to build an inclusive society. Your involvement goes beyond monetary contributions; it creates a supportive environment for those facing vision challenges and fosters a sense of community.

  • I can’t make it for the event, is there any other ways I can support?

    We truly appreciate your support for GDS and the blind and vision impaired community. Here are different ways you can support us:

    1. Help us spread the word among your family and friends by sharing information about GDS Flag Day 2025.
    2. Donate at giving.sg/gds. All donations to GDS during our campaign period from 1 March till 30 June 2025 are matched dollar-for-dollar by the Tote Board. This means when you donate $100, GDS will receive $200 in total. All direct donations to GDS of minimum S$20 are eligible for a 250% tax exemption.
    3. Invite us for an educational outreach talk. During this session, either a guide dog team or a blind client will be invited to share their personal journey of living with vision loss. This talk aims to enlighten participants about the visually impaired community and guide dogs in Singapore, fostering awareness and highlighting your organisation’s commitment to inclusivity.
    4. Conduct your own fundraising events. Some past fundraisers successfully organised by GDS’s partners include internal employee fundraising, merchandise sales, and yoga fundraisers.

  • What’s the CDC Voucher 2024 Donations Campaign?

    Starting 1 December 2024, Singaporean households can donate the value of their unused CDC Vouchers to a charity of their choice that has IPC (Institution of a Public Character) status.

    Even if your vouchers expire on 31 December 2024, you’ll still have until 31 January 2025 to donate their value.

  • How to Donate Your CDC Vouchers?

    Donating is quick and easy! Following these steps starting 1 December 2024:

    1. Visit the CDC Vouchers Donation Page at https://vouchers.cdc.gov.sg/donation-of-vouchers/
    2. In the search bar, type and select Guide Dogs Singapore as your charity of choice.
    3. You will be directed to a sign-in page. Log in securely using your Singpass.
    4. Review your details, confirm, and click Submit…. and you’re done!

  • Do I Get Tax Benefits?

    The Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) advises that these donations will be reflected in the Year of Assessment 2026.

Be a Guide Dog Ambassador!

Despite laws in Singapore permitting guide dogs in all public areas, many users still face rejection when visiting shops or restaurants. This ongoing challenge often leads to feelings of isolation and frustration for those who simply want to access the same spaces as everyone else.

This is why we are actively recruiting volunteers to be our Guide Dog Ambassadors.

Thank you Saizeriya for welcoming guide dogs.

As an Ambassador, you will share information about guide dog laws with businesses and encourage them to display our decals.

There will also be opportunities to engage directly with the community through door-to-door outreach to raise awareness about guide dogs. By advocating for guide dog access, you will help foster a more inclusive environment, allowing people with blindness and low vision to navigate their communities with ease and dignity.

    Our clients with vision impairment, including both white cane and guide dog users, will actively participate in GDS Flag Day 2024 to collect funds necessary for us to continue providing lifelong sustainable support for the visually impaired community. These clients will serve as ambassadors to promote inclusiveness, and you may have the opportunity to meet some of them.

  • I would need volunteering certification, is that possible?

    Values-in-Action (VIA) hours or volunteering certification will be provided to those who require it. The certification will be granted only to individuals who volunteer for a minimum of 4 hours and collect $40 or more.

  • Why should I volunteer with GDS?

    As a self-funded charity, donations play a pivotal role in supporting our mission of providing rehabilitation for individuals with vision loss. By volunteering with us, you will be able to help us raise funds to continue providing long-term support to the blind and low vision community and also contribute to raising awareness to build an inclusive society. Your involvement goes beyond monetary contributions; it creates a supportive environment for those facing vision challenges and fosters a sense of community.

  • I can’t make it for the event, is there any other ways I can support?

    We truly appreciate your support for GDS and the blind and vision impaired community. Here are different ways you can support us:

    1. Help us spread the word among your family and friends by sharing information about GDS Flag Day 2024.
    2. Donate at giving.sg/gds. All donations to GDS during our campaign period from 1 March till 31 May 2024 are matched dollar-for-dollar by the Tote Board. This means when you donate $100, GDS will receive $200 in total. All direct donations to GDS of minimum S$20 are eligible for a 250% tax exemption. This means that a S$1,000 donation would result in a S$2,500 deduction on your tax assessment.
    3. Invite us for an educational outreach talk. During this session, either a guide dog team or a VI client will be invited to share their personal journey of living with vision loss. This talk aims to enlighten participants about the VI community and guide dogs in Singapore, fostering awareness and highlighting your organisation’s commitment to inclusivity.
    4. Conduct your own fundraising events. Some past fundraisers successfully organised by GDS’s partners include internal employee fundraising, merchandise sales, and yoga fundraisers.

Volunteer for Guide Dogs Singapore Flag Day 2023

Our annual Flag Day is back again! For the first time in 3 years, we are excited to hold our Flag Day in person! We are calling for volunteers to join us for our island-wide street collection efforts on Saturday, 4 March 2023.
Take to the streets to increase awareness of the vision impaired community and guide dogs by collecting public donations in tin cans with us! Volunteers, donors and even our clients with vision impairment themselves (guide dogs too) will go out there to collect the funds needed for us to continue providing lifelong sustainable support for the vision impaired community and be our ambassadors to promote inclusiveness.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

  1. You must be at least 15 years old in 2023 to volunteer.
  2. You will be responsible for your own transportation and lunch.
  3. For those who require a letter to certify volunteering hours, a min. of 4 hours must be clocked and $40 and above must be collected.

A confirmation email with details will be sent to you within 2-3 working days upon registration. A reminder email will also be sent a few days before the event.

Volunteer, Temporary Carers/Boarders

We are seeking to expand our volunteers for GDS Guide Dog Programme.

CRITERIA

  1. Applicants have to be above 21 years of age.
  2. Time. Guide Dogs are used to being with their handlers all day; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Thus, they should not be left alone for more than 3 hours a day.
  3. If you intend to take the Guide Dog to work with you, do get written approval from your employers that you have permission to do so.
  4. You need to be moderately fit and physically healthy. Although Guide Dogs are generally well behaved, they are still medium sized dogs and you need to be able to manage them.
  5. Provide a safe environment for the Guide Dog to be in. This will be assessed through a home assessment by one of our staff. If the Guide Dog is to be brought to your office, an assessment of your office environment will also be done.
  6. The Guide Dog is to be allowed to sleep indoors in a well-ventilated area.
  7. Children in the household should be of at least school-going age (i.e. 5 years and above).
  8. Existing family pets need to be fully vaccinated and de-wormed. They have to also be compatible with the Guide Dog.

We welcomed our first Guide Dog Mobility Instructor (GDMI), back to Singapore in 2020. Christina had undergone two years of training in Melbourne, Australia and is our first local certified trainer. She will train and pair potential guide dog teams, and conduct annual reviews of our current working teams. Now that GDS has its own GDMI, problems that clients have with their guide dogs can be resolved more readily. We look forward to providing more access to our Guide Dog Programme.
