One year with a guide dog

On Saturday, 5 April, our clients were up bright and early for a charity dog walk at Universal Studios Sentosa. As part of Resorts World Sentosa’s CSR initiative, our clients, together with South Korean fitness personality Amotti, 200 members of the public and their pups, started the day in support of accessibility and inclusion.

Safe to say, the event was a great success, filled with wagging tails, happy paws and great company. Tickets were fully sold out, and with 70% of the proceeds going to our client programs and services, the impact goes far beyond guide dogs.

Guide Dogs Singapore provides a suite of services, targeting critical challenges that visually impaired persons might deal with. Beyond guide dog training and pairing, clients receive independent orientation and living skills training, support with accessible technology and casework management. Through these, our clients are empowered to step back out into the community and lead fuller lives.

As Guide Dogs Singapore depends on the generosity of the community to sustain our rehabilitative programs and guide dogs for individuals with vision loss, it was heartening to witness everyone come together for this meaningful cause. We extend our greatest gratitude to Resorts World Sentosa for including us in this initiative and for being an accessible space for all, and to Amotti, as well as all the participants, for bringing such great energy to the day.

Every Lunar New Year red packets are passed down from one generation to the next. Carrying with it hopes for good fortune, happiness and protection. Here at Guide Dogs Singapore, we're doubling up on the meanings associated with our red packets.  

This year, we are ushering in the New Year through our collaboration with Khairudin, an aspiring guide dog user living with glaucoma, to design a special red packet for the festive season. 

Despite the challenges, his passion for art shines through, pursuing it confidently with the support of Guide Dogs Singapore.

“I’m honoured that my artwork was chosen for this year’s angpao design. Losing my sight gradually in 2025 due to glaucoma has been challenging, but with GDS training, I’ve regained confidence and continue to pursue my hobbies. 

Your support brings me closer to my dream of becoming a guide dog user. Thank you for sharing your blessings this Lunar New Year, and giving me the chance to live independently and keep doing what I love.”

We are pleased to share that Guide Dogs Singapore Ltd is the 100ᵗʰ accredited member of the International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF), and proudly the 17ᵗʰ organisation in Asia to join a global community of guide dog organisations dedicated to the highest standards of training and service delivery.

To qualify for full membership, an organisation must meet strict criteria which includes:

• Successfully training and matching a minimum number of guide dogs and clients locally
• Consistently maintaining high standards in guide dog training, client care, dog welfare and matching process
• Upholding governance and professional development

GDS has been working with IGDF for over 10 years in the maintenance of our high standards and are proud to be recognised for our ongoing commitment to international best practices. What this means for GDS

As an accredited member of the International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF), we are now part of a globally recognised community dedicated to excellence in guide dog services. After completing their intensive training, it is finally time for guide dog team Manabu and Momo to graduate!

Since our inception, we have successfully paired 13 teams. Currently, there are eight active guide dog teams under GDS. With the forthcoming graduation of one additional team in July, this number will rise to nine. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our supporters who have made these milestones possible — and look forward to many more successes together in the years ahead.

Every journey begins with a single step, and for many people with vision loss, a guide dog makes that step possible. More than service animals, guide dogs provide freedom, confidence, and independence. They help their blind user cross busy streets, navigate crowded spaces, and go about daily life with greater ease.

At Guide Dogs Singapore Ltd (GDS), we make these life-changing partnerships possible. In addition to training and pairing guide dogs, we provide other essential support that help people with vision loss live independently.

Our Orientation and Mobility training equips people who have vision loss with the skills to travel safely to school or work. Independent living skills sessions focus on practical tasks like organising personal items and preparing meals, fostering greater self-sufficiency. We also provide assistive technological support, helping them use tools such as screen readers and apps for reading documents and managing schedules. Through these programmes, we empower blind individuals to lead fulfilling lives and actively participate in their communities.

However, continuing this vital work comes with significant costs. As we do not receive government support, we rely on our own fundraising efforts to provide rehabilitative programmes and guide dogs for individuals with vision loss. From March to June 2025, we are coming together to raise the essential funds needed to continue these life-changing efforts, and we need your help to make it happen.

Your donations to GDS by 30 June 2025 will be doubled, thanks to the Tote Board. This means that when you donate S$100 today, GDS will receive S$200 in total. All direct donations of a minimum of S$20 are eligible for a 250% tax exemption.

• $37: Provides a day of personalised training, boosting both physical and digital autonomy for clients and reducing stress for caregivers.
• $122: Representing a dollar a day for the duration of our 4-month campaign, this thoughtful contribution can supply a client with a white cane or critical daily living skills training. Alternatively, it could support the upkeep of our guide dogs in training, ensuring they are healthy, well-cared for, and ready to serve.
• $488: Swap one meal a week for a homemade dinner during our four-month campaign. Your choice to make this switch supports essential services for the blind, while promoting a healthier lifestyle for you.

Outreach Talk That Shapes Future Leaders in Schools and Corporates

For educators and professionals exploring Corporate Social Responsibility opportunities, we invite you to explore our customisable outreach talks. With a minimum donation of S$1,000, which is eligible for a 250% tax deduction, you can significantly elevate your team’s awareness and impact.

This session helps employees develop empathy, gain insight into vision loss and understand the importance of inclusivity while supporting your organisation’s ESG goals. Participants will also hear firsthand from a client with vision loss, meet and interact with a guide dog, and discover how small actions can create a more inclusive world.

Hosting this talk is a powerful step toward fostering social awareness and a more inclusive culture within your school or organisation.
