New Training Programme – Accessibility & Technology
Launch of a new training programme “Accessibility & Technology” which teaches people with no or low vision on using assistive technology to perform every day essential tasks and stay connected with their community. Consultancy on workplace and online information accessibility is also available.

Increased Professional Capacity
GDS’s first (and Singapore’s first) Guide Dog Mobility Instructor, Christina Teng, returns from her 2-year training in Guide Dogs Victoria.
2018
Rebranding of Our Charity
Our organisation’s name changes to Guide Dogs Singapore Ltd (GDS), introducing a new logo and mascot (formerly known as Guide Dogs Association of The Blind).
Increased Professional Capacity
Another accredited Orientation & Mobility Specialist joins the team. GDS now has two Specialists to provide clients a holistic rehabilitation programme.

Launch of a new training programme “Independent Living Skills”, which equips our clients with skills to manage and organise their daily activities on their own.

Launch of BeFrienders Programme to form friendships and encourage an active lifestyle amongst our clients.
Fifth Guide Dog Team
GDAB trains and forms our fifth guide dog team, Loolan and Ria.

First Locally Trained Guide Dog Team
Gary and Jordie becomes our fourth guide dog team and Singapore’s first locally trained team. GDAB has our first locally trained Orientation & Mobility Specialist.

Processes are streamlined for handlers applying licenses for their guide dogs to stay in their HDB flat.

Making Further Inroads
Special Identification Cards for guide dog users are made in collaboration with Ministry of Social & Family Development (MSF).
Guide released by Building and Construction Authority (BCA) for professionals to design spaces suitable for a guide dog and its handler.

The Beginning
Guide Dogs Association for the Blind (GDAB) is founded with the support of Prof Tommy Koh.
Regulation 29(3), (13) of the Environmental Public Health (Food Hygiene) Regulation permits guide dogs into food establishments.
