For many of us, sight is something we often take for granted. As our primary sense, it shapes how we experience and navigate the world. From everyday activities like reading to travelling independently, life without vision can be difficult to imagine. Yet, for around 40,000 individuals in Singapore who are blind or visually impaired (VI), this is their daily reality. While it can be isolating and challenging, with the right support, they can lead lives of dignity and purpose.
Since our founding in 2006, Guide Dogs Singapore Ltd (GDS) has cemented itself as an organisation dedicated to empowering the VI community to achieve greater independence and confidence through our training programmes, Casework and Counselling services.
From 1 August to 31 October 2026, we invite you to join us in our fundraising efforts to sustain these life-changing programmes. As GDS is not funded by the government, we depend on the generosity of the community, including individuals like yourself, to sustain our rehabilitative programmes and guide dogs for individuals with vision loss.

I started my Orientation & Mobility (O&M) training with Simone, where I learned the basics – from using a white cane to understanding different navigation techniques. As my vision has deteriorated further, I’ve come to truly appreciate everything I learned during those sessions.
My hope for the visually impaired community is that more people will feel empowered to seek support early and know that they are not alone in this journey.
And for the wider society, I hope there will be greater awareness, understanding, and kindness – sometimes even just a little patience or a simple offer of help can go a long way.”
